We are proud to introduce our recently renovated “Caroline Bay Tea Rooms.” A historical feature in Timaru, we have upgraded the facility to make it a premium and magical venue for your function or wedding. With a fully licensed bar, kitchen facilities and seating for up to 300, your function or reception is fully covered. The unique location allows you to literally walk out the door into one of Timaru’s most popular and varied photographic environments - the bay itself.
Located on the East Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. The city’s setting between ocean and alps make Timaru a great place to visit. Nestled under the Bay Hill The Caroline Bay tearooms give guests views of the mountains to the pacific ocean. Timaru is South Canterbury’s largest centre of population, and only city. Timaru had a population in 2006 of 26,895.
Timaru - originally namedTe Maru a "place of shelter"
The town developed at the only sheltered point on the coast between Banks Peninsula and North Otago, and owes much of its prosperity to its artificial harbour, first developed in the late 1800s. The Central Business District is 100m away, with shopping, cultural and sporting facilities.
Caroline Bay offers the picturesque beach as the perfect romantic setting for wedding photographers and their wedding parties
At our door step is Caroline Bay. Holiday-makers have been flocking to this stretch of sandy, safe beach for more than 100 years. This seaside haven retains some its traditional Edwardian flavour with promenades, playground and picnic areas. Its long-running annual Christmas - New Year carnival continues to draw visitors from throughout New Zealand and beyond for family days of entertainment and fairground rides. The Bay area also boasts the Trevor Griffith Rose Garden, the Piazza, the Soundshell, Mini Golf, Junior Playground, Paddling Pool, Skate Park and off course a safe sandy beach.
Caroline Bay has received a major upgrade thanks to The Timaru District Council.
The Piazza offers wheelchair access from the Bay hill down to the Trevor Griffith's Rose Garden. New water features, paved areas, courtyards, car parks, a scate park and renovation of the Caroline Bay Hall have enhanced the bay area considerably. The old caretakers house was demolished to make way for the new formal garden associated with the existing Tearooms building. New car parking area has been developed on one side of the tea rooms and an elegant courtyard is establishing is self on the other side. The tearooms building and garden operate as a private function facility available for you to hire for wedding ceremonies, functions, etc...
